Launch of Sneha Karma Collections

Launch of Sneha Karma Collections…But How ?

Yes, it is good that we have made a decision that we want to launch ‘Sneha Karma Collections’ but ‘How will we do it’, ‘What Platform will be be on ?’, ‘What will be Sell ?’, ‘How will be attract Customers ?’, ‘How will we operate it ?’

Just thinking about all  of these questions can make anyone dizzy…let alone that we are a 100% volunteer based organization ? where-in some of our volunteers serve for a few months and then become unavailable due to other priorities in life…So, how we we going to make it all happen ?

Being in the ‘Information Technology’ Industry Helps….

Most of our volunteers have some kind of an ‘Information Technology’ background and that can be a great asset on a project like us. We all had two things in common – We spoke the same language – professionally ( The IT Lingo – databases, programming, etc 😛 ) and the desire to provide an equal opportunity to the under-privileged. The Latter being a mandatory and it has to come from within. Volunteering is not a Job!

To Build or Use an Online Service ?

The first and the most important question that we had to first answer was whether to build our own platform or use online store. There were many factors that we had to consider before we made a final decision on this.

One of the most important one was the ease of ongoing use. If we considered only this factor, It was a no-brainer, we should be using Online Store services like Shopify, Squarespace, etc. but sometimes it is never as easy as that. Our vision is to eventually enable the NGO’s around the world to use our E-Commerce Platform as marketplace where they can showcase the artisans products and sell them. This will ensure that they do not need to invest in building the platform or do marketing, etc. This will enable them to focus on what they do best…work with the Artisans and provide them the required resources to be successful.

On the other hand, we needed a Platform which would enable us to customize based on our vision / mission. Ensure that it is easy to maintain – After all we are volunteer based team operating the store. A Platform which will be easy enough for our NGO and possibly artisans to use in the future with a little bit of training.

Taking all the factors in considered, A decision was made to Build the Platform.

In Life, the easy path might not necessarily be the right path!

Build but keeping it out-of-the-box

One of the things you learn very quickly and more quickly when you are running a non-profit is that the more you build and customize, the higher the cost will be for maintaining it.

Once we decided to build, we decided that we will be using out-of-the-box capabilities on whatever products we use. Zero Customization.

For the Tech Savvy readers, we decided on building the Platform using WordPress, WooCommerce and All the Plugins available out-there.

Yes, we can make the E-commerce storefront look more beautiful and unique by customizing it but we cannot afford the cost.

We are proud to say that we have build a E-Commerce Platform with Zero Customization!

So, Are we going to stock items we sell or ???

Selling Artisans products immediately was not an option due to reasons explained in our ‘Birth of Sneha Karma Collections‘ blog. If you have not read it already, We highly recommend you do.

In short, our end goal is to sell under-privileged artisan products on our E-commerce platform but getting there is going to be a journey, atleast a 2-year journey.

We had a choice on whether to resell products by stocking them and fulfilling the orders ourselves or to use the drop-ship model. Again, our goal is to keep our cost to the bare minimum,so that we can maximize on the profits so that we can donate 100% of it to Sneha Karma Foundation.

We decided to use the DropShip Model for now but will have to evolve as we start selling Artisans created products and might have to carry the inventory. More about this in another Blog.

Launching Sneha Karma Collection!

Finally, the day has arrived when we will be able to launch the first release Sneha Karma Collections!

An Idea that was born more than 2 years ago. The Team overcome so many challenges – each one deserves a blog on its own :-).

The store will be launched on March 24th, 2019 with approx. 250 products in 3 big categories – For Her, For Him and For Home. The ‘For Her’ and ‘For Him’ category will have approx. 75 products each and the ‘For Home’ will have 100.

We have minimized the number of sub-categories to keep navigation within the store easy but as we move along and increase the number of products available in each of the categories we will add more sub-categories.

Again, we are a 100% unpaid volunteer based online store and none of us have experience in running an online store. We are all learning as we go. We apologize to our patrons / shoppers if your experience is not at its best in the first few months but trust us, we are here to learn and we might not be as big as amazon.com but our goal is to give you a more personalized shopping experience than any of the online stores out there.

So, Wishing all the volunteers…Past, Present and Future…the very best at operating and expanding Sneha Karma Collections!

Thank you to all future customers / patrons of Sneha Karma Collections for your ongoing support and love. We cannot make a difference in the lives of the under-privileged and giving them an equal opportunity, without your ongoing support…so, Thank You!
